Major development threats

The South Downs Campaign is concerned about the proposals for a wind turbine at Glyndebourne and has now formally submitted an objection plus additional comments on a supplementary report produced by the applicants.  While welcoming the aim of the developers to reduce carbon emissions, if this turbine is approved it could set a dangerous precedent in such an open landscape which is particularly sensitive to any form of built development.

The South Downs Campaign objected to plans to develop the Petersfield Causeway and wrote to GOSE requesting that this application be called in should East Hampshire District Council be minded to approve the development.  Fortunately this proposal was turned down by East Hampshire District Council so unless the developer appeals that should be the end of the matter.

The South Downs Campaign submitted an objection to the King Edward VII proposals near Midhurst to Chichester District Council.  The SDC was concerned that the plans represented a significant overdevelopment of the site which if approved could have wider implications for the protection of the Sussex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  Fortunately the plans were scaled back but the SDC was still concerned that they represented an overdevelopment of the site.  Unfortunately these revised plans were approved without further modification.
